We understand seeking help with your mental health is a serious matter. And we know it can be difficult to understand the different approaches to treatment. We aim to help you decide if the treatment we offer is right for you.
Our approach is to offer Jungian psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. This is developed from the work of Dr Carl Jung and from other schools of psychoanalysis. We take care to talk with you from the earliest time to help guide you to the most suitable form of help.

Applying for treatment with the SAP Clinic
If you decide to apply for treatment with the SAP, there are two routes.
First, if you would like a consultation with an analyst, or wish to apply to our low-cost scheme (for which a consultation is needed), complete our clinic application form and send it back to us on-line. If this is a problem, give us a call on 020 7435 7696 and we’ll send a form through the post. We also have notes to help you complete the form.

More about our approach
Throughout our lives, emotional experiences change how we feel about ourselves, about others and the world around us. These can lead to psychological problems which affect our mental health. Problems are hard for to us – and often for those close to us – to understand.
For example, we may be caught in repeating patterns in relationships and behaviour over which we feel we have no control. We can repeat these patterns although they work against us. At the same time, we can also resist change, even if we know change would be good for us.
To bring about change, our emotional experiences across time and our unconscious processes, need to be understood. This is our approach to the treatment we offer. In practice, it involves you working with an analyst or psychotherapist on a regular basis.
This takes place in a safe and confidential space to help you understand the deeper processes at work which can cause you difficulty. Understanding your own ‘internal self’ more deeply makes it possible to tackle these problems, face obstacles and manage symptoms.

How long does Jungian therapy take?
Tackling issues which have become ‘stuck’ takes time. There is no short cut or quick fix. It is usual to have 1 to 2 sessions per week with a psychotherapist, or up to five sessions per week with an analyst. Treatment continues until you and your therapist agree to work towards and ending.
Costs vary and are agreed with individual analysts and therapists. Some adjust fees according to circumstances. To find an analyst or therapist directly, visit our directory of members.
Consultation and Low Cost Jungian Analysis
We understand cost is often a problem. For students, those on benefits or others on low incomes can apply for help through our low-cost scheme. The SAP supports this scheme from our charitable funds, providing low cost Jungian analysis with experienced practitioners who are in training and clinical supervision with the SAP.
To access the scheme, the first step is to make use the clinic enquiry form or complete a clinic application form and a call from our Clinic team will quickly follow.
If our call with you suggests the SAP is likely to be the right place to help you, we will invite you for a consultation with an analyst. This provides space and time for you to talk, to consider if the SAP is for you and to consider your options.
The current cost of our low cost Jungian analysis for those eligible is £90 (the full cost is £150). This covers two 50-minute meetings with an analyst, and recommendations agreed with you for treatment with the SAP, or alternative sources of help. This fee is payable in advance and is non-refundable.
To arrange a consultation, simply complete our clinic application form and a member of our Clinic team will be in touch. We do not require any fee to be paid unless we have spoken with you and agree that the SAP is a suitable form of help.
Time and Treatment
Spaces for analysis and psychotherapy on the scheme are limited and are for those who can commit to staying in treatment for a minimum period.
As a guide, for work with an analyst, this is for a minimum of two years. During this time, the commitment is for 4 sessions of analysis each week. Work with a psychotherapist is for one to two years, with 1 or 2 sessions of psychotherapy each week. In practice, these periods are usually exceeded as treatment continues for as long as needed.
Our places are available in the Greater London and surrounding area, and at times in other areas. At times, consultation and treatment may take place on-line. As places are limited, there is usually a waiting period for treatment to begin, but the Clinic keeps you informed of progress during this waiting time.
What happens after consultation?
The consultant agrees with you their recommendation to the Clinic. If this is for psychotherapy or analysis, the Clinic will be in touch to arrange this. The actual cost of treatment is agreed between you and your therapist, but for those on low incomes the fee can be low.
Within two weeks of your consultation, the SAP Clinic team will be in touch to discuss the next steps. If this is treatment with the SAP, we will talk about the process. If other help is indicated, we will discuss this with you and consider alternative sources of assistance. You can contact the Clinic again at any time during this process.
What if I need urgent help?
The SAP Clinic does not provide an emergency service. If you feel you need urgent help, we recommend you contact your GP as soon as possible.
In an emergency, or if you feel you are at risk of harming yourself or another person, we recommend you attend the Accident and Emergency Department at your nearest hospital. If there is an urgent need for someone to listen, we recommend you call The Samaritans on 116 123 – calls are free at any time and from any phone.
