Saturday 9th and 23rd November, 2024
16:00 – 18:00 London, (17:00 CET, 11:00 New York, 08:00 San Francisco)
Over two Saturdays, The Journal of Analytical Psychology is offering an online (Zoom) two-part neuroscience workshop, led by Prof. Erik Goodwyn.
The first workshop will include the following topics:
- Basics of neuroscience including a non-specialist overview of psychobiology
- Epigenetics and their relationship to therapy and the healing arts.
- Affective neuroscience in comparison to cognitive neuroscience and how they relate to Jungian theory.
- Discussion on the current psychobiological understanding of the collective unconscious as a whole, and the way in which these various fields of empirical research integrate with that concept.
The second workshop will move on to the following themes:
- Default mode network and literature on spontaneous thought (including dreams).
- Cognitive linguistics and embodied metaphor theory as a new way of looking at archetypal images and narratives.
- Jung’s insights not only regarding the function of dreams but the character and quality of dream imagery and other spontaneous imagery that allows us to better and more easily interpret such contents in a therapeutic and informative way. This includes active imagination.
- Discussion on how biosciences not only confirm many of Jung’s prescient intuitions but can be used to clarify and enrich the process of therapy, for developing a rapport between therapist and patient as well as the patient and their unconscious.
The workshop is open to analysts, candidates in training, routers and students
