FOR THE I CHING
(Book of Changes)

ITS CURRENT RELEVANCE

This day long, open, easy and informal workshop is designed to provide a working relationship with the I Ching, the earliest extant oracle stretching back through thousands of years and seeks to clarify its symbols and their use.

Attention will be drawn to the I Ching’s layered symbol language including yin/yang, the trigrams, hexagrams and changing lines.

The group will be invited to make consultations.

NB: workshop members are required to bring the Wilhelm edition of The Book of Changes, with Jung’s introduction, as well as pen and paper and three coins of everyday use and of the same denomination.

Tim Thomas is a group analyst. He has conducted analytic groups at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Tavistock Couples Counselling, Institute of Group Analysis etc. Tim writes: We are in an ancient agrarian domain which has been described as “a vast omenscape”, in other words in a pre-scientific, pre-“religious“, animistic epoch where apprehension was met chiefly by divination and magic. Divination deals with two kinds of anxiety – a secondary anxiety concerned with what the consequences of a willed decision, a motor activity, and the primary anxiety of the baby entirely dependent on others for its survival – a regression. Tim Thomas MA IGA has worked as a group analyst for the past twenty years including at Chelsea and Westminster and Hillingdon Hospitals. His poetry has been published in The Spectator. Winner, Berlin Short Film Festival, Micro-shorts section, ’21. His interest in the Book of Changes began in the 1960’s.

Tim welcomes fellow group analysts, psychotherapists, psychoanalysts, artists and occultists.

Nb the session will depend mainly on the Wilhelm Translation. It is advisable to have a copy to hand.
